MTV Incident with the Jonas Brothers & Jordin Sparks

In response to the recent MTV incident we have been bombarded with requests from news reporters and the media to give our response to the incident.  We did not see the event (except for news clips).  It is not our place to decipher people’s motives and intentions, and render judgment.  We hope that apologies are sincere and forgiveness is genuine.  We pray that this incident brings a new awareness and respect to abstinence and purity.   We hold the Jonas Brothers and Jordin Sparks in the highest regard and applaud their strength and convictions.  They are a positive influence to millions and certainly have the respect and admiration of a generation.

Now let’s address some facts -

Did you know that teens not being abstinent results in:

Millions of Unwanted Pregnancies Every Year

Over 40 Million Abortions since the early 1970’s

Millions of Serious and Deadly Sexually Transmitted Diseases Every Year

Millions of Families Torn Apart Every Year

Millions of Teens Raising Children in Poverty Every Year

Millions of Teens not Being Able to Live Their Dreams, Finish Their Education and Support Their Future Families to the Standard of Living That They Hoped For.

Millions of Severely Broken Hearts Every Year

With our heartfelt repentance God is always quick to forgive – but as the facts above clearly show - there are often hardships and hurtful consequences caused by our wrong decisions.

As you can see – making fun of purity is not funny, period.  Making fun of someone wearing a purity ring, it’s like making fun of someone for wearing a wedding ring – it doesn’t make any sense.

It’s our responsibility as parents, mentors and as a society to protect children (and believe it our not, teens are still children).  Encouragement, education, being a positive role model – it’s all part of being a responsible adult.  It’s time to teach teens about truths.  Truths that no one ever enjoyed having an abortion.  No one ever enjoyed an unwanted pregnancy.  No one ever enjoyed getting a sexually transmitted disease.  No one ever enjoyed foregoing their education and living in poverty, and no one ever enjoyed giving away a piece of their heart to someone who ultimately crushed it.

It’s our decision as to whether we are going to strive to be our very best, respect ourselves and others – or throw our lives into chaos.  It’s clear that abstinence is the only thing that protects teens from the horrible statistics listed above.

Parents – it’s time to be parents.  Care about these teens, encourage them and educate them.  Teaching them about abstinence, purity and God’s unconditional love for them is great first step.

Let’s work together to encourage and inspire the next generation!  Purity and abstinence work (God tells us so) !!!

Purity in the News

It's the 21st century and many young stars have something in common—abstinence.  Disney stars, such as The Jonas Brothers, are vowing to God and their fans to stay pure until marriage and are wearing Purity rings to symbolize these promises. Aware of their audience and the impact they may have on young fans, these adolescents are doing their best to be responsible young adults and keep these promises.  When asked about his Purity ring, Nick Jonas told Details magazine, “We always kind of stand for being a role model and trying to make a difference, and I think this is just one of our ways of kind of like being different than everybody else out there.”  The Jonas Brothers, Kevin (20), Joe (18) and Nick (15) proudly wear their Purity rings to be a positive influence.

More and more young stars are showing off their values with Purity rings and other Purity jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets.  These individuals have made a choice to remain pure and are proud to publicly display their beliefs.  Teen actresses, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have talked openly about Purity jewelry and their decisions to wait.  American Idol
winner Jordin Sparks also wears a purity ring and is very candid about her commitment to purity and God.  When it comes to the peer pressure and speculations that come along with being famous, these young men and women are wearing their Purity jewelry and proving to the world that they can still be young, fun and influential without sacrificing their belief system.
